ICANL member appoined to Senate

St. John’s, January 29, 2010 – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador (ICANL) today congratulated member Elizabeth (Beth) Marshall, CA, on being appointed to the Senate.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and all members, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Beth on this appointment,” said Tashia Batstone, CA, CEO of ICANL.  “Beth has been a very active member of the Institute, serving in a variety of capacities, and always striving to further the accounting profession.”

Most recently, Beth served on the Board of Directors for ICANL and for many years served as the Chair of the Institute’s Complaints Authorization Committee. Beth received her Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1979 and embarked on a stellar career in the provincial public service. For 10 years, she served as the Auditor General for Newfoundland and Labrador. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Minister for the departments of Social Services and Works, Services, and Transportation.  In 2003 she was elected to the House of Assembly for the District of Topsail.

“Beth has made a remarkable contribution to the chartered accountancy profession here in Newfoundland and Labrador, and we will certainly miss her guidance and leadership involvement to the Institute,” added Batstone. “All of us with the Institute wish Beth much happiness and continued success in her new role as Senator.”

ICANL represents a membership of approximately 700 CAs and students in Newfoundland and Labrador who work in public practice, industry, education and government. Its mandate is to serve and protect the public interest and to enhance the Chartered Accountancy profession.
